Glenn H. White Letter to the Editor

This is a letter to the editor from Glenn H. White, former Chairman of Cabarrus County Democratic Party.

December 28, 2005
Dear Editor:

One more time, controversy rears its’ ugly head over another project. This time, a jail in downtown Concord. My experience in these types of projects is, once they are approved to build everybody forgets about all that people envision as a problem.

When built, give it two months and no one will give it a second thought. I surely don’t think a few people in Concord should control what’s happening in the county. Somebody has got to have the guts to make decisions and stick with them. As this controversy continues to simmer, the cost goes up and up to build the jail.

When people care more about their own self-interest than they do about what the big picture is; then, we will continue to have dissentions in the operation of our local government.

In closing, just remember a jail location has been selected twice. HELLO! How many times do we have to go through this process? The Concord Board of Aldermen saved the airport. Look at what it is today! OK! City Council step up again; you passed a resolution to put the jail downtown. You didn’t put any restrictions on it then, don’t back-up and add restrictions now. JUST GET IT DONE!

By the way, no one came out on Winecoff School Road and saved me from apartments in my front and back yard. Are these people on Washington Lane any better than me?
